Mike Peters (The Alarm) @ HQ, Denver CO, 2024-02-18

Here is one from not too long ago.  Mike Peters from the Alarm doing a solo show at HQ in Denver.  The first set is acoustic mainly and then he pulls in some backing tracks for the second set.  Mostly all The Alarm songs.

He talks about it coming up on the 40th anniversary of their album Declaration and how he is going to bring the full band back to Denver in the summer.

Mike himself a cancer survivor started an organization called Love Hope Strength that helps out people going through cancer.   Sadly not long after this show he announced that he again has be diagnosed with cancer and he cancelled the bands summer tour to receive treatment.  Please consider donating to his organization or your favorite cancer research organization.  FUCK CANCER!!

Iggy Pop @ The Palace, Los Angeles CA, 1986-11-03

I got a 2nd box of tapes from my friend Randy late last year.  More recordings his friend Kat had made in the 80s-90s.  I transferred them pretty quickly but that is the easy part.  Listening to all of them and doing any needed work to make them presentable if possible takes some time.

I've been digging in and had recalled that this Iggy show sounded pretty good.  The cassette was labeled Nov 2nd but Randy's recollection was that it was the Nov 3rd.  He looked for a ticket stub but didn't find it.  I was going under the assumption that this was the 2nd since it was written on the cassette.

Then as I was listening to the show and searching the net for any clues.  I found there are recordings of  1986-11-02 out there and they note that Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) comes out to play on Cry Of Love.
Fast forward to the end of my recording and Steve isn't introduced before Cry Of Love, as he is on the 11-02 recording, and they play an another Stooges song.  Down On The Street!!

Having proof now that this is a recording of November 3rd I look around for any recordings of this night and come up empty.  Setlist FM has the show listed but not setlist for the show.  I knew that this particular cassette master source hadn't been circulated ever before.  But it appears that no source of this night has been circulated.  That is pretty exciting.  Welcome to the world Iggy 1986-11-03.

Sound is pretty decent with a few cassette anomalies here and there.  I was looking at picture of the Palace and it is a big beautiful theatre in downtown LA.  I bet it would be a great place to see a movie.
For a loud punk rock show you can here the ceiling.  It is what it is.  Vocals are nice an clear.  Enjoy.

Slobberbone @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2003-01-29

I've posted a few other Slobberbone shows.  I'm a big fan and hope to see them again someday at one of their hometown Denton shows.  They don't tour anymore so it's just the occasional one off.

I had thought I had shared this one long ago but it appears that maybe I never did.  So here you go.  Another Slobberbone soundboard from the Lion's Lair.  Sounds nice and a great setlist.  Oddly they open with a Neil Young song and encore with a Neil Young song.  Enjoy.

Dead Pioneers @ Bobcat Club, Denver CO, 2023-06-17

Indigenous artist Gregg Deal started Dead Pioneers as an off shoot of another performance piece he was doing called “The Punk Pan-Indian Romantic Comedy”.  He talks about that history on track 3.

For the debut album they recorded in Ft Collins they recruited Abe Brennan from Joy Subtraction to play lead guitar.  Abe handles all of the guitar at this show.

To quote their bio "Dead Pioneers is rooted in creating and performing a sound heavily influenced by the punk aesthetic with an edge built on a First Peoples perspective and not afraid to tackle hard political and social issues, standing in solidarity of Indigenous rights, Black rights, Brown rights, Asian rights, Gay rights, Trans rights, Workers rights and beyond."  It's punk rock as fuck.

A bit of a stripped down lineup but they kicked ass I thought.  The was a hella fun show.  Watch for these guys and see them live if you get a chance.

The Bottle Rockets @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2004-02-25

Been a big fan of the Bottle Rockets since the mid 90s when I heard the albums  "24 Hours A Day " and "The Brooklyn Side".  I had never seen them before this 2004 show though.  And never again as it turns out.  The Lion's Lair was a perfect place to see them for the first time.  My buddies in the Foggy Mountain Fuckers opened up the show.

Brian Henneman was plagued with technical issues that effected his guitar mix oddly at the beginning of the set in a few places.  Him and the Lion's Lair sound guy try a few things to get it fixed to no avail.  The band had gone off the road in Wyoming the night before.  No one got hurt and the van remained upright but Brian thinks maybe one of his pedals got damaged in the indecent.  He removes it from the chain and soldiers on.  Mid set he realizes that the problem all along was a loose outlet on the Lion's Lair stage.  He is so happy.  The band handled it like the pros they are.

I did edit out multiple minutes in between some songs at the beginning of the set while they were  working it out.  No one needed to hear that.  Brian was very frustrated.  That was the big reason I sat on this for so long.  I didn't want to post up someone having their worst day.    After being on a Bottle Rockets vinyl kick recently I decided to revisit this and loved the performance and was surprised at how much I liked the board mix I captured.  Not all vocals and kick drum.  Lots of guitar up in the mix and even if they were having a bad day they play the hell out of these songs.  Amazing 24 song setlist.  Wow!  I figured 20 years was long enough to sit on this.  Enjoy.

Melvins @ Bluebird Theatre, Denver CO, 1999-07-10

I shared the Boulder Fox Theater Melvins show from July 7th 1999 a while back.  This is the first time sharing the July 10th 1999 show from the Bluebird.

They were touring behind Bootlicker with Kevin Rumantis bass.  I think the Boulder show sounds better.  This one is a little hot on the loud parts.  Very listenable though.  It is what it is.

Pike Vs The Automaton @ HQ, Denver CO, 2023-08-06

I've seen Matt Pike in High On Fire at some small venues over the years.  These days both Sleep and HOF are playing in much bigger venues.  So it was a nice treat to get to see Matt Pike up-close on a small stage.  This time with his side project Pike Vs The Automaton.

They put out an album in 2022.  Matt can't help sounding like himself so there are similarities to his other bands but enough of a different flavor to sound fresh.

Not a surprise they kickass live.  A bunch of songs from the album and a W.A.S.P. cover!!  Fun.
